The newest trend for weight loss has been around for years, in the bodybuilding industry know as Semaglutide.
A performance enhancing drugs that helped athletes with appetite suppression when in the depths of weight loss.
Now available on prescription to aid with weight loss, many women are turning to the drug to aid them in their weight loss journeys.
BUT many aren’t sure of how to best approach their lifestyle to help them keep the weight off once they decide to no longer take the drug (or no longer qualify for the prescription).
So I have compiled a list of things that can help you maintain your weight loss, and health, throughout your weight loss injection journey.
GOOD NUTRITION - Your appetite is suppressed, don’t let that be a reason to under eat or only eat less of the bad stuff.
PROTEIN IS IMPORTANT - This will maintain your muscle mass, especially if your weight training too it’s important you eat it to keep the muscle whilst losing weight.
FAT IS ALSO IMPORTANT - Yes your fat intake is important too, this helps regulate your hormones, keep your hair healthy and supports for your joints, bones and organs.
WATER INTAKE - Hydration is so important for weight loss, digestion and internal health especially vitamin absorption. Your gut, organs and body will thank you for drinking it!
SUPPLEMENTS - You’re eating less, so micronutrients may be lower due to less food. So many sure you’re taking supplements to care for your body with supplements and vitamins.
TRAIN - Find a way to exercise, that you actually enjoy, because reality is you’ve got to keep it up forever! Yes, scary, but necessary to maintain your ideal body. I’ve weight trained for over 10 years and run, which has kept my body healthy, fit and looking great. Weight training is best for shape. Cardio to burn calories.
UNDER EATING IS NOT A FLEX - Less is NOT more, eating less than 1000kcals is a sure way to end up with health issues. There’s a reason even as an athlete getting lean I never ate less than that for longer than ¾ weeks, and even when I did, my hair thinned, I lost my period and ended up with injuries. Make sure you get enough calories in.
LEARN TO COUNT CALORIES - To make sure you’re getting enough in, learn to count them. Because when you no longer use the weight loss tool, you’ll have to learn to eat with a higher appetite and the best way to prevent weight gain is knowing how much your eating and what to eat.
STEP GOAL - Stay active everyday, a 8-10k step goal will keep calories burning, your weight maintaining and are good for your mind and body.
STAY ACCOUNTABLE AND CONSISTENT - Keep track of your weight, find a range that you feel most comfortable at (not a set number on the scales, as they will always fluctuate) and use photos to assess your look. But most importantly stay consistent, ensure you feel good in yourself, and are healthy in your life.
When it comes to losing weight and maintaining your dream body, it takes more than just eating less, it takes changing your lifestyle.
The lifestyle you lived that cause the weight gain, is going to be different to the one that keeps it off.
You can’t go back to “normal” because that means back to the old version of you.
